Garmont is one of the leaders in boot manufacturing for Telemark & AT and definitely on the front lines of the revolution. Bringing fresh concepts to all types of skiers every season and continually being aware of the needs the average skier and the one that wants to go bigger and faster than the next person. FHL was able to sit down with Donna Ebbett to uncover the goods at the SIA trade show in Vegas last week.
The big news this season is the arrival of the ELEKTRA. A high performance women’s boot that boasts four buckles, added height, stiffer flex, triple injected shell (only Garmont uses), and a women’s specific G-fit3 thermoformable liner. This is a boot in response the growing number of aggressive women freeheel skiers out there. Garmont athlete Erin Young told us, “This boot is important because there are little if any high performance Telemark boots comparable to the men’s boots. I need a boot like this because I need a women’s specific boot that still allows me to charge the big mountain and the park without compromising integrity….and it’s sexy!” True words from the only women freeheel athlete out there spinning through 720 in the park and greasing urban rails like it ain’t no thang.
Other features that are great are: a removable spoiler that can be added or removed on the back of the boot depending on leg size, fine tuning magnesium buckles, & canting mechanism. All features that will ensure that the boot fits properly and will keep one skiing harder!
Athletes play a key role in the development of Garmont products, including such greats as Doug Coombs. “We don’t sponsor one type of skier,” said Ebbett. This obviously plays a role in the development of many types of boots and products that are as diverse as the many types of freeheel skiing and the terrain. From Coombs to Young, it is apparent from our conversation that Garmont is building products that are going to last and work for all types of skiers on the mountain.
