Ski Bum Trick: The Art of Sleeping

When one first begins to indulge in the ski bumming business, one of the primary responsibilities is to learn about the art of sleeping in one’s car. Though often not as comfortable as your king size four post, a sleeping bag stretched out in the Nissan Sentra can make lasting memories.

Parking
Vagrancy is a crime, so it’s important that you choose wisely when parking. Anywhere near the resort? Head to the hotel parking lots! Scope out the situation, but many of the smaller hotels don’t require permits for guests and would never suspect someone sleeping in the parking lot of a ‘sleeping’ establishment.

Heat
After you’ve dialed in your new real estate, start thinking about having a house warming party. Simply crank the heat up in the car and get your sleeping bag warmed up. The key to a good night’s sleep is all in starting with a warm car. If you wake up cold in the middle of the night you can do a quick re-heat and get back to sweet dreams of deep POW.

Cars/Vans
It can be a bit tricky at first, but small cars definitely work. FHL field testers prefer to stay in the driver’s seat in a reclined position making for easing driving in the morning. Simply unzip the bottom of your bag so you have feet to gas and brake with, then stay in your bag while you take a drive through the local coffee shop window.

Vans are the bomb.com! Take all your seats out in the back and you have an instant mobile chalet. Mini vans are great too since they generally get better gas mileage and are warmer at night. Stay away from old VW’s as many of the older models do not have heating and more exposed metal inside, means colder temps at night.

We wish you all the best in your travels for this upcoming season. Have Fun, be safe, and remember that FHL has nothing to do with you actually trying this stuff. That being said... happy ski days!
