Our stainless steel reinforcement plates are American made and come with the screws needed for installation. They are somewhat fiddly to install so we've included an instruction sheet for you to peruse. You'll need a drill and rotary tool (Dremel®), some strong adhesive and a hefty dose of patience and fortitude to install these. 

However, once they're on, they're on. If you manage to break them, we’ll replace them, guaranteed.

  • Plate: 20 Gauge 304 Stainless Steel, Made in Keene, NH
  • Screws for the inner pair of holes: 18-8 stainless steel, #4-24x1/2" Flat head thread-forming screws, Made in Taiwan
  • Screws for the outer pair of holes: 410 stainless steel, #4-24x1/2" Flat head Hi-Lo ® thread-forming screws, Made in Taiwan

Facts about Smile Plates:

  • Originally made by Tenney Cannon and then by Voile, they have also been known as "Smiley Plates" and "Tenney Toes".
  • Pairs of our Smile Plates were used by Chris and Marty Fagan for their record-breaking 3BelowZero Antarctica Expedition in 2013.

 

Need new screws? We'd be happy to send you new screws if you need them. The old screws were pointed and came sealed in a group of 8 under a single piece of white masking tape. 

The replacements are flatter at the tip and come with 4 under white tape and 4 under blue tape.
